CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that is built on constantly varied, functional movements, done at high intensity. For a more detailed explanation, check out “What is CrossFit?“.
What is Crossfit?
I’m interested in trying CrossFit. How do I start?
If you’ve never tried CrossFit before, Queen City CrossFit offers two options to help you get started:
QCC BootCamp is an hour-long class held every Sunday at 10 a.m. This class is open to members and non-members alike. In BootCamp, you’ll experience many of the elements of CrossFit but without the complex/heavy lifts that require previous experience. It’s a great way to check out the gym and see what CrossFit is like before you commit to a membership. You can drop-in the day of BootCamp or sign up in advance here. Your first class is free! Non-members can attend additional BootCamp classes at our drop-in rate or by buying a class pass.
To join Queen City CrossFit, all new members must complete Elements as a prerequisite. Elements is a 2 week series of classes and workouts that teaches you the foundational movements of CrossFit and the philosophy behind the CrossFit program, while giving us the opportunity to understand your individual training goals and evaluate your current fitness level. For more detailed information, check out Elements.
I’m ready to sign up! What do I do next?
Elements class sizes are limited so to reserve your spot, please make your payment at our Online Store. Upon receipt of your payment for Elements, we will add you to class. Please be sure to provide us a valid email address. Each session of Elements is progressive so you must start with a new class. In general, a new class start the first and third Monday/Tuesday of each month. You are always welcome to contact us to confirm when a next available class starts. Your first class is risk free.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No. We offer class passes and month-to-month memberships with no long-term commitment. However, we have several contract options available at reduced monthly dues.
What makes Crossfit different?
We push, pull, squat, jump, run and develop the physical and mental capacities that we need in life. We train using functional movements, our workouts are always varied and with your commitment to hard work, we offer measurable results. With every session, there is a certified trainer there to coach and challenge you. Unlike other gyms, Queen City CrossFit is a community of people that grows and encourages you to be your best.
I have not worked out in years, am I in shape enough for CrossFit?
CrossFit is universally scalable meaning that everyone, regardless of age, gender, experience or fitness level can CrossFit. CrossFit is about working at high intensity but that is defined by each individual. We can modify any WOD to make sure you can work at your personal high intensity. All we ask is that you come in, work hard and you will get in the best shape of your life.
What is a WOD?
How long is an average class?
Our classes are scheduled for one hour. It may occasionally run a little shorter or longer depending on the WOD. This hour will always include warm up, and oftentimes skill, mobility and/or strength work.
If I’m working at such high intensity, will I get hurt?
We focus on a progression of solid mechanics, consistency then intensity. Injuries can happen when doing any sort of exercise program. At QCC, we minimize the risk of injury by:
- Having a robust, month long Elements program that focuses on proper form and mechanics.
- Always warming up appropriately before WODs
- And always having a certified trainer present to ensure proper form and scaling of WODs.
I have been CrossFitting at another affiliate. Do I still need to go through Elements to join?
If you have been training at another affiliate, you may be able to forgo Elements by having your coach email us. We will determine together, whether you would be better suited starting with Elements or jumping right into CrossFit Group Training.
I’m visiting from out of town. Can I drop-in to work out?
We always welcome visitors. Please contact us beforehand to discuss details.
Is CrossFit for me?
Only you can answer that question. Give us a call, stop by, observe a class, meet the coaches, meet the members and ask questions. We look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you have.
